The California-based enterprise’s flagship product, More Hair Naturally 9, includes three different kinds of stem cells to energize the growth phase of hair, improve the condition of hair follicles, and support anchoring fibers. It also provides three different peptide complexes to help the hair absorb nutrients and probiotics that act as functional foods to combat hair loss — all of which work synergistically to inhibit the conversion of testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone) on the scalp. All of these benefits are packed into one topical treatment for thinning hair.

The global hair restoration market was valued at approximately USD 4.2 billion in 2020 and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.4% through 2028. The rising prevalence of androgenetic alopecia is the key factor driving the market. The disorder now affects 50 million men and 30 million women in the United States, according to the National Institutes of Health. Androgenic alopecia has been linked to genetic factors, age, medications, lifestyle issues (such as immoderate intake of tobacco and alcohol), and escalating stress indices.

The hair loss prevention products market size was valued at USD 23.6 billion in 2021 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.2% to reach $31.5 billion by 2028. The rising prevalence of hair loss among youth is driving the hair loss prevention products market. Increases in disposable income and rising concerns about aesthetics are also poised to contribute to the demand for More Hair Naturally®.

Minoxidil, sold as Rogaine, is a common topical treatment for thinning hair for both male and female hair loss. While its mechanism of action is not fully understood, it is believed to work through a scalp enzyme called sulfotransferase, which converts the minoxidil into a salt called minoxidil sulfate. This shortens the resting phase of hair growth and causes the hair to enter the active growing stage. It requires continuous treatment, however. Measurable changes in hair growth disappear if treatment is withdrawn. Minoxidil can also cause side effects, such as an itchy, dry, scaly, irritated, or burning scalp after application.

Finasteride (marketed as Propecia) is another common topical treatment for thinning hair that has achieved moderate success, but it carries with it a number of serious side effects. It has been known to cause erection and ejaculation problems and to decrease fertility and sexual desire in men. It has also been linked to gynecomastia or enlarged breasts in men. Like minoxidil, finasteride’s hair growth effects will only last as long as the medicine is taken. In addition, because of the risk of birth defects, finasteride is generally not used in the treatment of female pattern hair loss.

In contrast, More Hair Naturally® products cause no side effects, and their hair growth benefits continue even after they are no longer in use. CEO Mahryah Shain says results can be seen in three to six months, and in terms of hair regrowth, the products can “bring you back ten to fifteen years.”

Inspiration for More Hair Naturally® began in his own family during the 1980s when Shain’s father began losing his hair. In order to grow it back, the elder Shain started to take supplements that altered his hormones.

“He actually started growing ‘man-boobs,’” Mahryah Shain says. “He said, ‘Wait, I’ll go bald — I want my body back!’”

Even products that were less damaging, they found, didn’t produce hair fast enough, and the hair that did regrow tended to be weak and thin. That began the family’s hunt for a topical treatment for thinning hair that didn’t have side effects.

Part of the problem, Shain says, is that while scientific research has advanced, actual treatments have not.

Supplements.

“All the drug products that are currently used today are the same products that were used back then – the same drug products that were used in the ’70s. They’re all just the re-packaging and the re-branding and better marketing of the same ingredients. Since the ’70s, the research didn’t stop – but why are there no products out there that are reflecting the new research?”

Initially, Shain says, much of that research was happening overseas, where a great deal of work was being done on stem cells, peptide complexes, amino acids, and probiotics. Many of these approaches were producing results by themselves, so the Shains decided to combine them with the help of a lab specializing in natural products.

One main component of the More Hair Naturally® line is the use of stem cells – but not the controversial embryonic stem cells often talked about in the media. Instead, these are adipose-derived stem cells (fat cells) donated from adult humans, intended for human-to-human compatibility.

Two other kinds of stem cells are used to aid in healing the follicle, hair, and scalp. Bamboo sprouts are used because bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on the planet. Scientists believe this is due to their rapid stem cell reproduction, so these stem cells are used in an “overall” design to help speed the hair recovery process. Ginseng root is also used (a specific type, not the typical food kind). These cells have the ability to differentiate, which means they adapt to specific human hair stem cell reproduction.

DHT cuts off blood to the follicle by binding to its receptor sites. Shain says the combination of ingredients in More Hair Naturally® helps to remove DHT and creates a lasting protective shield over the hair follicle so that DHT doesn’t build up. This unique topical treatment for thinning hair then allows hair follicles to heal and grow again naturally.

“This is technology that didn’t even exist ten to fifteen years ago,” Shain says. “It’s a whole new approach to hair loss. There’s no product like this on the market. You don’t have to sacrifice your health to have hair.”

More Hair Naturally® products are distributed directly to consumers online and via e-commerce retailers.
